3D Printing for Foundry
3D printing can greatly enhance the efficiency of metal casting processes. For sand casting, the master pattern can be 3D printed directly from the CAD file, eliminating manual labor needed to machine the pattern. 3D printed patterns are more accurate, can be made quickly and allows more complex designs to be realized. For investment casting procedures, the master pattern can also be directly printed instead of machining or tooling. Thanks to advanced material innovation such as Polymaker's PolyCast, 3D printed patterns can be smoothed to a high standard and can replace traditional wax patterns in the casting process. PolyCast models can be burned out cleanly without leaving residue, giving a high quality casting result.
